Tesla Model S P100D - Electric Vehicle Engineering at its Finest

Tesla Model S P100D. A vehicle that can keep up with the realm of sports and super-car's in terms of speed, performance, comfort and price. With the practicality of a family sedan.

Introduced from the best electronic car company Tesla in August 2016, the P100D took the world by storm with its innovative ideas and with it's performance rivalling Super Car's in 0-100 Km/hr speeds. The Ferrari 488 manages a impressive 0-100 Km/hr time of 2.9 seconds and the Porsche 911 GT3 achieve a respectable 3.1 seconds, but it is incomparable to the P100D's 2.5 seconds. The acceleration provides the driver with 1.44 G's of force upon launch, which pushes you back into it's seats as you experience the 1.44 times the force of the gravity of earth on a horizontal plane. So how does it manage to pull this off?

Going back to year 10 science class, it is known that electric motors are able to provide instant torque to the wheels allowing for a fast launch, compared to a traditional petrol engine which has to first combine the fuel with the air. After the fuel and air mixture is together, the spark plugs ignite it allowing for a combustion which allows the pistons in the engine to create work and which allows for the car to move. The whole process is much longer than electricity providing torque on the wheels which affects the launch times. This instant torque is the key to allowing for the P100D's incredible performance of 588 horsepower and 920 lb-ft of torque at the wheels.

Since the Tesla P100D is a 4 door, 5 seat sedan it has another function aside from being a sports car killer. It is normally used as family car, comfortably seating the whole family. The P100D is also very practical with a boot space of 894 litres and with the rear seats folding down, it provides a large 1795 litres of space, more than the Mercedes e63 estate.

Aside from practicality, the P100D also prioritises the comfort and safety of  passengers. The comfort and luxury are all thanks to the leather interior seats, full panoramic sunroof, 17 inch (43.18 cm) touch screen tablet in the centre which access all the vehicle controls (air conditioning, volume and music controls, drive type options, navigation etc),  no loud engine noise as the P100D has no engine, noise cancellation from outside noises, front and rear seat heaters and a custom audio system containing 11 speakers and a 8 inch sub woofer. With having no engine, it uses electricity as an alternative for fuel allowing for a range of 507 Km's.

 Using Tesla's supercharges, it can charge up to 20 minutes for 50% and 75 minutes to reach 100%, but with conventional 240 Volt wall outlet, it would take a overnight charge of 9.5 hours. It also features a working auto drive system that can perform functions which include full auto pilot and automatic parking.

The Tesla P100D is a no doubt a luxury vehicle and should reflect on the price of it. The base price of a P100D is $112,800, but if you are looking for the best performance Tesla, the one to purchase is the performance version coming in at $146,300  however, the price of a fully equipped P100D with every option available selected is $195,125 as a brand new car. While brand new Tesla's are on the pricey side, second hand  2017 Tesla Model S P100D are available with 52,000 Km's can go for as low as $95,000.
